Who’s The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card For?

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card is a great entry level Visa compared to the Frequent Flyer Black card which has a higher annual fee (learn more here).

Compared to other cards in the market, the 0.75 Points per dollar earn rate is undoubtedly competitive.

Considering this card is aimed at lower spenders the $3,000 limit to earn 0.75 Points per dollar is most likely suitable. If you’re looking for a card that allows more Points on your monthly spend, check out the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card here.

Most savvy Points collectors will pair a card like this with an American Express such as the Amex Qantas Ultimate Card to maximise the possibility to earn Points. Essentially using the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum as a backup when Amex isn’t accepted.

Insurance Benefits

Insurance on the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card includes:

  • International travel insurance
  • Rental vehicle excess in Australia insurance
  • Interstate flight inconvenience insurance
  • Transit accident insurance
  • Purchase protection insurance
  • Guaranteed pricing scheme
  • You can and should read the PDS here  and here to make sure these products are sufficient for you.

Other Benefits

Unfortunately, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card doesn’t come with any Qantas lounge passes, but it does offer a few extras such as access to Personal Concierge which can help you make restaurant and hotel bookings among other things. To speak to the concierge team, you can call the Personal Concierge on 1300 580 765 in Australia or, if you are overseas +61 2 8987 1677.

ANZ also offers support for Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay which is very handy.

Will I Get The Bonus Points?

ANZ has 2 separate types of Points-earning credit cards: Qantas Frequent Flyer and ANZ Rewards (the flexible program which allows you to transfer to a range of airline partners).

ANZ allows those who currently hold or have held an ANZ Rewards card within the last 12 months to apply and receive the bonus Points on the ANZ Frequent Flyer card range. This rule is the same the other way around too, so if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer card, you can sign up for any of the ANZ Rewards cards and receive the bonus if you meet the other conditions.

If you have held a supplementary card in the past or you still hold one under your spouse or partners account, you are also eligible for the bonus.

What’s The Eligible Spend?

Essentially it’s everyday transactions such as groceries, petrol, bill payments, travel bookings, dining etc. Non-Eligible spent includes cash advances (by taking money out of the ATM for example), gambling (which is classed as a cash advance) or balance transfer.

If you’re uncertain if a particular spend will count towards your minimum spend requirement to get the bonus, check with ANZ first before proceeding.

ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum In Conclusion

With the $195 back to your card and the bonus of 50,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer Points, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Card is certainly a compelling offer, especially if you find the minimum spend requirements of the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card to high.
