One of the first reactions people have when they see pictures of the Crowne Plaza Changi are along the lines of “that’s an airport hotel??”.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Review 1

If you didn’t know the location, the Crowne Plaza at Changi Airport could easily be confused with a downtown city location.

Right next door: The Jewel

While most airport hotels around the world have traditionally offered the basics, Crowne Plaza decided on a different direction when they opened the hotel back in 2008.

The result is a beautiful airport hotel worth your attention when you stopover in Singapore next.

How To Book

Crowne Plaza is an IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) brand so you may already have status through stays by holding a credit card or if you pay for the (excellent) Intercontinental Ambassador program. If this is the case, booking direct will give you the best rates and allow you to earn points + enjoy any benefits that might come with your status.

The best way to book direct would be to run your transaction through Shopback first. This means you will earn a 3.5% cash back on your stay, nice! If you’re not already registered with Shopback you can do so via our exclusive partner link and get $10 account credit when you make your first transaction.

If you have no idea what Shopback is, check out our Shopback review here.

Alternatively, I’m a big fan of hotels.com simply because they have a great rewards program (stay 10 nights, get 1 free). You can also run this through Shopback for a cash back of between 1%-4%.

Location

The Crowne Plaza is conveniently located in Terminal 3, and after a quick immigration check you’re there. Clear signage when you exit customs will point you in the right direction. Since it’s all connected to the terminal building, you won’t have to set foot outside the airport at all.

The Rooms

There are a variety of rooms on offer, my room on this occasion was the “Premium Runway View King Room” with club access.

There are 2 parts of the hotel, the first part opened back in 2008, and the new section was completed in 2016.

Rooms in the latter part are styled slightly differently, but you can select your room type when booking direct.

My runway view room was in the “old” part of the hotel, which has all the rooms connected through an indoor/outdoor walkway system.

The views over the runway are what AVGEEK dreams are made of so if you like watching planes, booking this room type is a must.

Beds are comfortable and so are the pillows. Considering this is an airport hotel, the rooms are rather spacious and have both a soaking tub + a traditional shower; win!

Some of the new rooms even have soaking tubs with views over the Jewel.

Personally, I’m more of a fan of the newer room designs, that said I believe the standard rooms in the main building are slightly more spacious.

Every room comes with a Handy Phone which you can use free of charge to access the internet and make local and selected international calls.

Hotel Pool / Spa & Gym

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Review 20

The Crowne Plaza Changi offers an excellent outdoor pool, but unfortunately you can’t see the runway from there. The gym and spa are also on the same level, so you have no reason to leave.

Club Lounge

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Review 22

The Club Lounge is right next to the pool and looks out onto the pool area (partially). Happy hour is from 5PM-8PM with a selection of complimentary cocktails on offer and some snacks. Also included with Club access is breakfast but I didn’t get the chance to try this since we only stayed until midnight.

Conclusion

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Review 27

The Crowne Plaza Changi is the perfect spot to relax in between flights, while there are other options now such as Yotel Air Changi Airport, I find their lack of space and amenities warrant the slightly higher price of Crowne Plaza which has much more space in the rooms for your luggage as well, not to mention views!

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Review 28

Since Singapore Airport is so damn efficient, there’s no reason to stay airside on a layover either. Since Crowne Plaza is connected to the terminal, it’s a breeze to get to and from the gate in no-time.

Full disclosure: Although 99% of my travel is self-funded. On occasion, I do accept collaborations from hotels I already know and value. This stay was by invitation from Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. Opinions and pictures are my own.
