As an Intercontinental Ambassador, I’ve been seeking out more stays at new and interesting Intercontinental hotels. The recently opened Intercontinental Robertson Quay certainly fit that criteria. The hotel is the second Intercontinental property in the lion city, and for what it’s worth, I’m really liking the new design trend IHG is taking with its Intercontinental brand. If you’ve visited the new Perth Intercontinental, you will feel right at home at the new property in Singapore.

If you don’t have a paid Ambassador membership you would be best to use Hotels.com since their reward program gives you a free night with every 10 nights stayed at most hotels around the world. You can check the latest pricing here.

Hotel Location

Address: 1 Nanson Rd, Singapore 238909

As you might have guessed from the name, the Intercontinental Robertson Quay is located… along the Robertson Quay area by the Singapore river. The hotel opened its doors on October 12, 2017, and takes the space of the Gallery Hotel (when taking a taxi, use this as a reference as some drivers aren’t familiar with the new location). A 10 min walk will get you to the Downtown MRT station. The famous nightlife spots are Clarke Quay are a short walk away and so is the Fort Canning Park.

Lobby and Club Floor

The hotel lobby is located on the first floor (actually, it could be second or third… no idea), staff are on hand to help with luggage and operate the elevator to the reception.

Once we arrived, check-in staff knew who I was. I figured they must have made the assumption based on my previously communicated early arrival request.

The hotel lobby is modern and beautiful with lots of marble paired perfectly with black and mirror elements in the ceiling. Beige and khaki green leather furniture pieces break up the contrasts and are blended in by grey textured carpets.

Club Lounge

The Intercontinental Robertson Quay has a 24h club lounge with an outdoor terrace. It’s probably one of the nicer lounges I’ve visited and the food and drinks on offer in the evening are fantastic. Since we only stayed at the hotel for 12 hours on our layover, we didn’t get to try the breakfast but the evening canapes paired with free-flow Veuve Clicquot were great.

The lounge also has a proper barista coffee machine offering free coffees to club lounge guest all day long. Is it worth paying the extra for a club room? In this case 100% yes. If you plan to make use of the club lounge, it’s great value for what’s on offer.

Swimming Pool

There is a small swimming pool on the same level as the hotel lobby. Unfortunately, the pool has absolutely no views, but it’s perfect for a dip; I just can’t imagine people lounging around the pool all day.

The Room (Corner Suite)

As an IC Ambassador, you get a guaranteed upgrade and 4PM late checkout. We got upgraded to a corner suite which was very spacious.

The flooring throughout is a textured wooden laminate which also goes right through the shower, this is combined with textured walls clad in leather details and black accents.

The overall vibe is very chic. Our room had a view over the Singapore River and the nearby parklands. The bed was extremely comfortable with no less than seven pillows on offer. As a pillow connoisseur, this was very well received.

Central lighting was easily controlled from the bedside table, and so were the blackout curtains and blinds.

Bathroom

The bathroom was open-plan with the option to close the divider between it and the bedroom. Both toilet and shower were in separate areas and the whole setup was very spacious. To the far right was a separate bathtub with Grown Alchemist amenities.

In Conclusion

The Intercontinental Hotel Robertson Quay Singapore is probably one of my favourite new hotels in Singapore. Room rates are better than the more centrally located Intercontinental, but since this property is so new, it’s excellent value.

I believe they are working on a rooftop area, but this appeared to be under construction when we visited. It’s a shame the pool area seemed to be an afterthought; especially in Singapore where almost every hotel has a crazy rooftop or infinity pool.
