Qantas Points Club Ultimate Guide

Qantas’ Points Club has been greatly anticipated since its announcement last year. Thankfully, the wait is now over with Qantas officially launching the Qantas Points Club program earlier today.

Points Club is a branch of Qantas Frequent Flyer that aims to benefit frequent buyers who earn on everyday purchases and activities. It is hoped the program will complement the existing status credit tiers for frequent flyers. Whether you’re booking a luxury hotel or car hire, there are lots of ways to unlock Points Club.

Being a new integration, some may find Points Club confusing at first. To put it simply, all eligible Qantas Points which are earned on the ground such as credit card spending and Qantas credit card sign up bonuses (plus up to 20,000 points from flying) add up towards unlocking Points Club.

You will automatically unlock Points Club once you reach 150,000 points in a membership year. You can see your progress towards Points Club in your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

Qantas Points Club Membership Tiers

The Qantas Points Club has two membership tiers which require a minimum number of Qantas Points to earn. Majority of these points need to be earned on the ground as Qantas only counts up to 20,000 points earned through flying towards Qantas Points Club.

Additionally, Qantas will only count a maximum of 125,000 Qantas points from a single transaction. For any transactions which earn over this limit, Qantas will only count the first 125,000 Qantas points towards Points Club.

For example, if you sign up to a credit card which has a signup bonus of 150k points which are awarded all at once, Qantas will exclude 25k of these points from your Points Club balance. However, if the card offers 150k points split into three increments of 50k points, all points will count as each transaction is less than 125,000 Qantas Points.

Points earned through elite status bonus rewards, family transfers, loyalty bonuses and Qantas Business Rewards transfers do not count towards your membership.

Qantas Points Club is split into two tiers, the entry-level Points club and Points Club Plus for those big spenders:

Points Club FAQs

What’s the difference between my Points Club balance and my overall Qantas Points balance?

This one can be confusing at first. Your overall Qantas Points balance shows the total number of Qantas Points you have accumulated over multiple years and can be redeemed on flights, discounts and other rewards. For Points Club, Qantas counts part of your overall Qantas Points as a tally to show how close you are to gaining Points Club membership.

Can I transfer my Points Club membership?

No, you can’t transfer Points Club membership or any of the benefits to another Qantas Frequent Flyer member.

Will credit card bonus points count towards Points Club qualification?

Yes, however they are subject to the maximum transaction limit of 125,000 Qantas Points.

How does Status Credit rollover work?

For Points Club Plus members, a maximum of 100 status credits will roll over to the next membership year. As normal, these status credits will contribute to earning or retaining elite status, excluding Platinum One status.

Do Points Club Plus members receive a physical Qantas Club card?

No, you will instead gain access to a digital Qantas Club card which can be found on the Qantas website or app.

Can I hack Points Club by family transferring points back and forth?

No you can’t. Family transfers are unfortunately excluded from the elegibility criteria.
