Today Amex and Velocity Frequent Flyer launched an interesting promotion for those that have American Express cards enrolled into the Membership Rewards program (the flexible; and arguably most valuable points program by Amex).

Instant Velocity Gold or Platinum 1

How the Amex bonus transfer works

To transfer Membership Rewards points for Velocity Points you must be enrolled in Membership Rewards Ascent, Gateway, Premium Ascent, Business Ascent or David Jones Membership Rewards program and be a member of Velocity Frequent Flyer.

To receive 15-25% Bonus Velocity Points plus Gold or Platinum Status, you must transfer Membership Rewards points to Velocity between 15/02/2019 and 15/03/2019. A minimum amount of 2,000 points transferred is required.

Instant Velocity Gold or Platinum 2
How to get Velocity Gold or Platinum

To receive an upgrade to Platinum Velocity membership for 12 months, you must transfer a total of 500,001 Membership Rewards points in one transaction during the Promotion Period. To receive an upgrade to Gold Velocity membership for 12 months, you must transfer between 250,001 and 500,000 Membership Rewards points in one transaction during the Promotion Period.

Instant Velocity Gold or Platinum 3

The 12 month period will commence from the end of the Promotion Period. In order to maintain your Status at the end of the 12 month period (on your Review Date), you will need to have earned the required Status Credits and flown Eligible Sectors. Your new membership pack will be mailed to you within 4 weeks of the end of the Promotion Period; please ensure your address details in your Velocity account match the details of your Membership Rewards account.

You can access this promotion by visiting https://catalogue.membershiprewards.com.au/partner/Velocity/Velocity/ while logged in.

Note that this may only be targeted to Platinum Card holders; check your transfer page first to confirm you will receive the status benefits before transferring!

With the upcoming Amex Membership Rewards devaluation, will you be tempted by this offer?

I think the smarter players would be getting better value for their points than transferring to the devalued Velocity program.

Personally I’m not jumping on the deal as I don’t get any value out of status (and already got Velocity Gold thanks to last years Flybuys transfer deal) but for those who fly VA a lot it might be worth it. I would want to see at least 50% bonus before I transfer.

Unrelated Immanuel, just wanted to say how much I’m enjoying your site. Nice to have something relative to Australian readers with with more interesting stuff than credit card referals.

Weird, mine doesn’t have the offer of gold/platinum when transferring from plat charge.
It just says 15 / 20 /25% bonus points

Hey, I’ve just upadted the post. Looks like the status offer is limited to those that hold the Amex Platinum Card

We have Amex Explorer and it shows the bonus points plus status as you notified

Hi Tam, excellent news! I’ve seen some mixed results with others not receiving the status benefit on their Explorer. I’m wondering if there’s any other targeting involved
